"100 Years on the Ohio River" - June, 2007

Historical re-enactors, well-known speakers, and first person interpreters
all came together at Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing
last summer to commemorate the founding of Louisville, KY and to celebrate the
first 100 years of the history of the city.  This time-line event gave visitors a chance
to put together the sequence of events that opened up the western frontier,
secured it during the Revolutionary War, launched the Corps of Discovery, and
led to the Civil War.

Each historical period had a distinct camp so that visitors could literally walk through the timeline and see how clothing and weapons changed.

Robert Bell, pointed out a structure on the far shore of the Ohio River and said that in artillery competions, he could easily hit a target that size.

Visitors discussed the Revolutionary War with members of Logans Company. In 1777, Ben Logan was in command of the whole Kentucky County VA militia.

Members of each time period represented participated in the color guard ceremony to kick off the event.

Members of the artillery crew were happy to explain all the skills and knowledge that go into firing their beautiful brass cannon.

Daniel Midgitt is portraying a Shawnee warrior who has just gotten the best of Rev War era soldier Brian Cushing.

Lance Minnis, Logan's Company commander, moves in to challenge the Shawnee. The natives had no permanent settlements in KY and whites wanted the land

Michael Crutcher convincingly portrays Frederick Douglass at Riverside. Crutcher is an excellent orator and does many speaking engagements.

Dennis Boggs is instantly recognizable as Lincoln and treats visitors to his stirring rendition of the Gettysburg address.

Fourteenth District Councilman Bob Henderson addressed the visitors at Riverside and welcomed them to the first "100 Years on the Ohio" event.

The artillery crew drew lots of interest from kids and adults alike. The cannon echoed off the hills across the river each time it was fired.
